Having a smoother surface, metal needles tend to produce faster knitting but stitches are more likely to slide off by accident. In turn, the red loops secure the white loops just below them, which in turn secure the loops below them, and so on. The moss stitch or seed stitch is a simple stitch and looks great since it is so textured when used as an all over pattern.
