Some yarns are dyed to be either variegated (changing color every few stitches in a random fashion) or self-striping (changing every few rows). Plants used for fibers include cotton, flax (for linen), bamboo, ramie, hemp, jute, nettle, raffia, yucca, coconut husk, banana trees, soy and corn.
