Free Knit Pattern Counterpane
Knitting is the oldest craft among all the crafts. Here's how I care for the things I have been knitting. Knitting is no longer only for grandmothers or just any mothers.
Another common type of knitting is the purl stitch, which is handled in an opposite manner than the knit stitch. If you don't know how to knit at all, pick up a book like Teach Yourself Knitting Visually or a clear, simple how-to-knit eBook like this one Communities also exist online, with blogs being very popular, alongside online groups and social networking through mediums such as Yahoo! Groups, where people can share tips and techniques, run competitions, and share their patterns.
Once the knitted piece is finished, the remaining live stitches are "cast off. To form a "knit stitch" you use one needle to pull a loop of yarn through the existing stitch on the other needle. On the right side, the visible portions of the loops are the verticals connecting two rows, arranged in a grid of V shapes. As well, I like to be able to spread my work out and check my pattern for any mistakes and it is much easier to view when using these needles.
The fibers making up a yarn may be continuous filament fibers such as silk and many synthetics, or they may be staples (fibers of an average length, typically a few inches); naturally filament fibers are sometimes cut up into staples before spinning. This is particularly good as the pattern will be correct for the yarn being used. Flat knitting, which is done on two straight needles, produces a length of cloth, while circular knitting, which is done on circular or double-pointed needles, produces a seamless tube. It is also best to use the basic knitting stitches, just knit and purl until you are use to knitting.
Keep YOUR knitting on the "Cutting Edge" with FREE patterns. Not only will this provide a nice social outlet, but your new knitting friends may also be able to help you locate and use new knitting patterns and new ideas for knitting projects.
